Wigs have become my ultimate go-to for transforming my appearance, and call me Storm because it's like having a superpower in my hands. As a Black woman, the variety of textures, lengths, and styles available in wigs have allowed me to explore my identity in a way that is both liberating and empowering. The moment I slide on a new wig, an alter ego takes over, and I become an unstoppable siren, captivating everyone. From rocking sleek bobs that scream sophistication to flaunting luxurious curls that exude sensuality, I embody the essence of a baddie in every look! Wigs have given me the power to slay any room and own my unique style with unapologetic confidence. The way my head turns when I sashay into a space, snatching attention with my flawless wig game, is a testament to the confidence and empowerment wigs have brought into my life.
One of the most liberating aspects of being a wig enthusiast is the ability to transform into different personas with each new hairstyle. With each wig I wear, I get to tap into different sides of my personality and reveal new personas that make me feel top-tier. One day, it’s giving Naomi Campbell on the runway, and the next, a boss bitch ready to take over the world. Wigs enable me to step into different roles and explore various facets of my personality without limitations. The versatility of wigs has become a playground where I can experiment with different styles, colors, textures and lengths, allowing me to express my ever-changing moods and desires. At the end of the day, life's too short to stick to one look – I’m embracing the power of wigs and letting my many sides shine!
For centuries, society has imposed Eurocentric beauty standards, often neglecting the diverse beauty of Black women. However, wigs have become a powerful tool in reclaiming our uniqueness and celebrating our individuality. By experimenting with different hairstyles, colors, and textures, I have learned to embrace and appreciate my own beauty, defying the societal expectations and creating my own definition of what it means to be beautiful.
The upcoming launch of my inclusive mannequin head brand, NuMannequin Co., brings me immense joy and excitement. These gorgeous mannequins, aka “Nummies,” will not only serve as a glamorous display for any wig collection but also represent the diverse beauty that exists within our community. Finally, Black queens will have a space to celebrate their unique styles and showcase their wig journey. My wig room - inspired by Porsha William’s wig room - is about to transform into a sanctuary of empowerment, with each Nummie mannequin head telling a story of individuality and inclusivity. Through this brand, I hope to inspire and uplift others, encouraging them to embrace their own individuality and beauty. This venture is not just about aesthetics; it is a celebration of inclusivity and representation within the beauty industry.
Growing up, I watched my mama fearlessly and unapologetically experiment with different wigs, boldly embracing vibrant colors and unique styles as a mature-aged woman. Initially, I didn't quite understand her choices. However, my own wig journey allowed me to fully appreciate her courage and love for self-expression. It was through my own experimentation with lace front wigs, professionally installed to perfection, that I truly understood the magic of wigs. I finally understood the freedom and empowerment that comes with embracing versatility and breaking away from traditional sew-in styles. My mom's undeniable confidence and refusal to conform to societal norms taught me the importance of self-expression and embracing our uniqueness.
My journey as a wig enthusiast has been nothing short of transformative. Through the versatility of wigs, I have found empowerment, self-expression, and the ability to embrace different personas that reflect my diverse personality. Meanwhile, I eagerly await the launch of NuMannequin Co., as it symbolizes a new (or, “Nu”) era of representation and celebrates the beauty of Black women in all their flawless glory. Inspired by the fearlessness of my mother, I have come to appreciate the transformative power of wigs and the freedom they offer us to be authentically ourselves.
